DESCRIPTION: Join us for this special live interactive event with the ICC Membership Councils during this year’s annual Building Safety Month. The ICC Membership Councils provide a valuable opportunity for both building safety professionals and community stakeholders to engage the ICC as we shape the code implementation process and protect the communities in which we live, work, and play. During this special event representatives from major jurisdictions as well as all six discipline-specific Membership Councils will discuss their group’s membership, role, and the varied opportunities for participation.

Our Spring general membership meeting will be virtual. The meeting will last for the first hour, and a one-hour training session will follow. More details are below.

  • Topic: Introduction to GA-600-2018 Fire Resistance and Sound Control Design Manual

  • Overview: This 1 hour session will provide an in-depth look at the GA's code-referenced Fire Resistance and Sound Control Design Manual (GA-600-2018). A brief overview of the Manual will be followed by a deeper dive into the General Explanatory Notes for fire and sound. Often overlooked, the Notes are very helpful in problem solving and code compliance issues. After drawing attention to additional GA resources, the instructor will take questions.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course will provide an overview of mass timber which includes any product currently permitted for use in Type IV (heavy timber) construction such as cross-laminated timber (CLT), structural composite lumber (SCL), glue laminated timber (glulam), mechanically laminated decking (aka nail-laminated timber, NLT), and large section sawn timbers. NLT, glulam, SCL, and solid-sawn timbers have been adopted in the International Building Code (IBC) and utilized throughout the world for several decades on a wide variety of buildings. Learn what`s new in 2015/2018 IBC for Mass Timber Construction as well as an overview of Tall Mass Timber Construction per the 2021 IBC. Topics include heights and areas, construction fire safety, fire and connection design and special inspection, with Tall Mass Timber Construction in accordance with the 2021 IBC will be discussed.
